Pandas Grab Top Spot in Women’s Volleyball

The Alberta Pandas, who won the Canada West championship with a 3-2 win over UBC on Saturday night, are the top seed heading into the 2025 U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship. U SPORTS announced the seeding on Sunday for the 2025 event, which runs from Friday to Sunday at the Investors Group Athletic Centre on the campus of the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.

The complete field, in seeding order, is as follows:

  1. Alberta Pandas (CW champions, 17-3 regular season, 4-0 playoffs)
  2. UBC Thunderbirds (CW finalists, 15-5, 3-1)
  3. Manitoba Bisons (hosts/CW bronze medallists, 16-4, 3-1)
  4. McMaster Marauders (OUA champions, 14-6, 3-0)
  5. Montréal Carabins (RSEQ champions, 19-2, 4-1)
  6. Saint Mary’s Huskies (AUS champions, 14-6, 4-1)
  7. Saskatchewan Huskies (CW fourth place/host berth, 10-10,4-4)
  8. Memorial Sea-Hawks (AUS finalists: 10-10, 2-3)

In women’s volleyball, the eight participating teams are seeded with the requirements that conference playoff results be respected, that conference champions be seeded no lower than No. 6, and that first-round conference matchups be avoided for the conference finalists. 

The quarterfinals will be played on Friday, as follows: (all times Central)

  • Noon: No. 5 MontrĂ©al vs. No. 4 McMaster
  • 2 p.m.: No. 8 Memorial vs. No. 1 Alberta
  • 6 p.m.: No. 6 Saint Mary’s at Manitoba
  • 8 p.m.: No. 7 Saskatchewan vs. No. 2 UBC 

Consolation games will take place on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m., with the semifinals set for 6 and 8 p.m. On Sunday, the fifth-place game is set for 1 p.m., with the bronze medal game following at 3 p.m. and the championship at 7 p.m.

All 11 games from the event will be broadcast live on CBC Sports digital platforms in English. In French, the games will be carried on Radio Canada’s digital platforms. The full schedule will be available throughout the tournament at en.usports.ca/Broadcasts/Broadcast_Info.
