New Champions Crowned at the 2025 Skate Canada Cup

WATERLOO, ONTARIO (March 2, 2025) – NEXXICE (Burlington, Ontario) delivered a strong performance throughout the 2025 Skate Canada Cup in Waterloo, securing a gold medal in the Gold category with a total score of 176.06.

NEXXICE took the lead in Friday’s short program, scoring 86.28, the only team to surpass 80 points. They repeated the feat the following day in the free program, where they also finished first, this time with a score of 89.78. 

“It was a very good competition,” said Olivia Roberts of NEXXICE. “It’s always fun to spend time as a team and build our chemistry together. We’ve worked very hard this year and we’re happy to have been able to show it this weekend. I’m very proud of my teammates.” 

They were joined on the podium by Les Éclypses (Mirabel, Quebec), who finished second with 166.64 points, and by team Starlight (Ottawa, Ontario), bronze medalists with a score of 160.76. 

In the Novice category, Les Suprêmes (Saint-Léonard, Quebec) secured a gold medal after finishing first in the short and free programs, with a total score of 173.41 points. Meraki (Toronto, Ontario) and NEXXICE (Burlington, Ontario) rounded out the podium. 

“The competition went really well for us,” said Ashlynn Alexandre of Les Suprêmes. “We regrouped after the short program to focus on the task at hand. We are really proud of what we presented this weekend.” 

Finally, team Starlites (Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador) stood on top of the podium in the Open category with a total of 200.82 points. Les Suprêmes (Saint-Léonard, Quebec) finished second, while Élite Synchro (Pierrefonds, Quebec) finished in third place. 

“We are very happy with how we performed as a team,” shared Jillian Whiteway, co-captain of Starlites. “We worked together towards a common goal, and we succeeded! It’s a great moment and we are proud to represent Newfoundland and Labrador.”
