SISIKON, September 11th, 2022 – Molly Carlson finished second with 326.90 points today at the sixth stop of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series held at Lake Uri in Sisikon, Switzerland. This was her fifth podium of the season.
Canadian divers Jessica Macauley finished sixth with 292.60 points and Aimee Harrison finished eleventh with 221.21 points. Australia’s Rhiannan Iffland won gold with a total of 364.90 points and her compatriot, Xantheia Pennisi was third with a cumulative score of 325.40.
Carlson was sitting in first place after Saturday’s two dives with the highest score of the day on her second dive, scoring 86.70 points. Unfortunately, the Thunder Bay, Ontario, native fell in the standings after executing her newest dive in competition, the forward four somersaults with ½ twist, a 4.4 degree of difficulty dive, the highest of any dive in the competition
“I’m super happy, super proud. I tried a new dive that Stephane (Lapointe) and I have been working on for a while now in the summer. I’ve only done it four times in my life! It didn’t go perfectly, so I was a little frustrated after round three. But, at the end of the day, it’s a brand new dive, you just got to keep your chin up.”
“I knew that if I did a good job with my last dive, I would be able to hang on to second spot in the overall standings, which is where I’ve been sitting all year long. I executed my inward dive very well so I was really happy! Diving in Switzerland was incredible and the crowd was amazing”, Carlson added.
Winnipeg’s Aimee Harrison, was the first diver to present that difficult dive in competition in Oslo, last month. It helped her earn fifth spot, her best career result. In Sisikon, it earned her 70.40 points.
“Both Aimee and Molly have incredible control over this dive despite how challenging it is. They are wowing everyone”, stated Stéphane Lapointe, Team Canada’s high diving coach.
After six events of the Red Cliff Diving World Series, Carlson sits in second place of the overall standings with 950 points, trailing Australia’s Iffland with 1160. Macauley improved her ranking today, tied for third place with 614 points.
The three Canadian divers will be back in action on September 18th at the Italian stop of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in Polignano A Mare.
