Media accreditation open for the NORCECA Men’s Tokyo Qualification Tournament

December 20, 2019: Volleyball Canada is now accepting requests for media accreditation to the NORCECA Men’s Tokyo Qualification Tournament. The Olympic qualifier will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia at the Pacific Coliseum, January 10 to 12, 2020.

The three-day round-robin tournament will feature host Canada, Cuba, Mexico and Puerto Rico vying to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. This is Canada’s last chance to qualify for the Games. (The women’s team will compete in a similar tournament in Dominican Republic on the same weekend).

The Canadian men had a chance to secure their spot in Tokyo back in August at the FIVB Olympic qualification tournament but just fell short, finishing second in their pool to Argentina. They then had to finish in the top-four at the NORCECA Championships in Winnipeg in September, which they did with a bronze medal. That finish granted team Canada the opportunity to compete in this final tournament, where they will be putting everything on the line.

The Men’s National Team overcame a 24-year Olympic drought back in 2016 and now has its sights set on back-to-back Olympic appearances.

The winner of the tournament will join Brazil, Italy, Poland, Russia, Argentina, Japan and the USA at the 2020 Tokyo Games from July 25 to August 9.
