Lila Stewart Strikes Back, Kash Tarasoff Wows the Crowd in Edmonton

2025 Speedo Junior Elite National Championships

Montréal, July 20, 2025 – The final day of the 2025 Speedo Junior Elite National Championships in Edmonton saw gold medal performances by Lila Stewart and Kash Tarasoff, as well as a particularly competitive mixed team event.

Stewart, who was disappointed with her ninth-place finish in yesterday’s 3m finals, redeemed herself in masterly fashion at the Kinsmen Sports Centre on Sunday. As the Group A 1m finals got underway, the diver from Regina and Alexa Fung (TDA) battled it out for first place. Stewart took the lead on her third dive—a lead she held all the way to the top of the podium.

“All the girls are excellent divers, and they performed high-quality dives. I’m really proud to have performed my dives well, and I’m super happy with the outcome,” said Stewart.

Stewart amassed a total of 460.15 points in the finals, while Fung finished with 426.40.

“I wanted to dive with confidence, especially after all the trouble I had in the 3m event yesterday. I made a good comeback today, and I showed everyone what I’m capable of,” added the gold medallist.

Presley Deck (Saskatoon, 399.33) finished third, as she did yesterday in the Group A 3m finals.

Meanwhile, Kash Tarasoff dominated the boys’ Group A platform finals, with a total score of 564.15.

Karasoff, who trains with the Saskatoon diving club, received an impressive 96.00 points for his second dive, a double back somersault with one and a half twists in free position, performed from armstand.

“After my first dive, I could feel a lot of adrenaline pumping through my body, so I had to calm myself down to get ready for my next one, which I start in a handstand. As I entered the water, I heard the crowd cheer, so I knew I had done well!” he explained.

Each of Karasoff’s first three dives also earned him scores above 80.00, giving him a comfortable lead that he held throughout the finals. Nevertheless, his good friend Arnaud Corbeil, who trains with CAMO, put up a very good fight, finishing with 521.85 points and the silver medal. Luc Goertzen of the Calgary club captured bronze with a final score of 497.95.

“I feel great! My goal was simply to dive my best. I’m super happy to have won this medal, especially with my good friend Arnaud by my side,” added Tarasoff.

The weekend’s events were capped off by the mixed team competition. Arnaud Corbeil won his second medal of the day, striking gold alongside Mathilde Laberge and Sam Talbot. The trio from Quebec racked up a total of 380.60 points.

Jolene Mills, Adrian Insogna, Aidyn Pankiw-Brennan, and Alessandra Mittelstadt(ESPDC, EKDC) captured the silver medal with 350,00, while Sam McCaffrey, Mackenzie-Mai Van Houtte-Cachero, Miles Nadeau, and Ella Lindsay (PCDC, Nepean) secured bronze with 336,65.
