LAVAL, QC – Following a successful hosting of the 2022 edition of the Canada Cup East, the province of Quebec is ready to host the 2023 edition in Laval this coming weekend. The competition is organized by the Féderation de tir à l’arc du Québec, in collaboration with Archery Canada. The event kicks off on Friday afternoon with the optional 720 round, which serves as the warm-up for the official 720 qualification round and matchplay beginning on Saturday. With more than 100 athletes competing, it promises to be an exciting event.
While the majority of the archers in the competition are from Ontario and Quebec, we will see archers from British Columbia, New Brunswick and multiple American states. Unlike the Canada Cup West, recurve bows will have a larger showing than compound and barebow.
This national event will see the likes of some national squad athletes shooting, such as Eleanor Brug, Stephanie Barrett and Virginie Chénier, who won a team bronze medal at the Pan Am Championships last year in Santiago, and Eric Peters, who placed fifth at the Antalya World Cup earlier this year. A couple of the members of the national para squad will also be there. Shawn Matheson and Kyle Tremblay, who have already competed at the Para-Archery European Cup earlier this year, will also be making an appearance in Laval.
Organizing committee members and volunteers are currently busy finalizing preparations to welcome athletes, coaches and supporters and ensure the staging of what promises to be the largest target archery event in Eastern Canada this year.
Archery Canada would like to extend a thank you to the host club and the Government of Canada for their support in putting on this and all of our national events.
