Lac La Biche, Alberta – From September 16-22, the world’s top archers will converge on Lac La Biche for the 2024 World Archery Field Championships. Over 240 archers from 28 nations will compete in this thrilling showcase of skill and precision.
This prestigious event marks the second time the community has hosted an archery World Championships, having previously hosted the 2019 World Archery 3D Championships. Hosting international events like this is vital for Canada, bringing economic benefits and enhancing its reputation as a world-class sports destination. “Canada has been trying to bring more international archery competitions to our home soil. Events like these Championships foster community pride, promote the sport as well as healthy lifestyles, and showcase Canada on a global stage,” said Aaron Bull, President of Archery Canada.
The event showcases Canada’s potential as a world-class sporting destination and emphasizes the importance of hosting international competitions. “Events like this put Canada on the global sports map and inspire future generations of athletes,” said Aaron Bull, President of Archery Canada.
“This will be the first time Canada has hosted the World Archery Field Championships, and it is a great privilege and an honor”, said Rene Schaub, Organizing Chair. “Being able to host this event here demonstrates the passion and dedication of our community. It has been a lot of work, but everything has been coming together well and we are proud to welcome the world’s best archers to Lac La Biche.”
Canada will be represented by 21 archers this year, including 2022 World Champion Dustin Watson (ON), who won in the U21 Compound category and will be seeking to defend his title. It is the largest contingent Canada has fielded to these championships, largely because of its presence in Canada.
Spectators are invited to witness the elimination matches at the Lakeland Archery Range on Thursday and Friday, to be followed by the Team and Individual finals at the Lac La Biche Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday.
The organizers extend their sincere thanks to the major funding partners, the Government of Alberta, Lac La Biche County, and the many volunteers who have made this event possible.
Join us as we celebrate the spirit of archery and international sportsmanship in the heart of Alberta!
