PARIS, FR –Deep River native Kyle Tremblay, was back in action in Paris, France today at the historic field of Les Invalides. After setting a new International Personal Best in the ranking round the previous day, Tremblay entered his first match with high confidence against an unfamiliar opponent, former Paralympian, Alisina Manshaezadeh of the Republic of Iran.
The weather was expected to be rainy, but conditions took a sharp turn as the skies opened up just before Tremblay took the field, adding an extra layer of uncertainty. However, Tremblay showed no signs of discomfort. He opened the match with an X, a 10, then a 9, dropping only 1 point in the first end and taking an early 3 point lead over his opponent.
Tremblay continued to build momentum in the second end, extending his lead to six points and maintaining his strong form throughout the remainder of the match. He secured victory with a final score of 140-135, advancing to the 1/8th elimination round.
“On the first match I was feeling a little nervous as my first Paralympic match at my first Paralympic Games” started Tremblay. “I just wanted to come out, stick with my technique, focus on my aim and see where the arrows went. With the weather change, it can throw off your sight and process a bit so keeping my focus allowed me to adjust quickly. Rain like that makes it tough, you have to maintain a deadly focus to maintain your shot.”
Reflecting on both his match today and his ranking round yesterday, Tremblay expressed growing confidence: “I know I can do it, I know I am capable, and to get that result yesterday and to advance just keeps the confidence high and reassures me in knowing what I can do!”
“Kyle came into todays competition really strong, really confident after having a really good qualifying round. “ said Canadian Paralympic team coach Linda Price. “In addition he was feeling really comfortable and confident in his equipment and set up and his mental game after spending some preparatory time at CREPS BFC in Dijon, leading up to the Games. I have no doubt that we will see Kyle continue to move forward at the Games and continue to see a strong and confident performance out of him!”
The Compound Men’s schedule includes a rest day before Kyle returns to the field for the 1/8th round, where he will face Michael Meier of Austria on Sept 1st at 10:04 am EST (estimated).
