Montréal, August 18th, 2025 – Katelyn Fung captured bronze on Sunday in the 10-meter platform event at the Junior Pan American Games in Asuncion, Paraguay. With a cumulative score of 311.10 points, the Ontario diver got bested by Americans Ellireese Niday (360.10) and Hannah McLaughlin (314.40).
“It was my last individual competition of the season, and I’m thrilled and proud to have made it onto the podium,” declared Katelyn Fung after the competition.
“I worked hard all season long, and I realized the other day that I started training for this campaign in August of 2024. So it’s been a long season,” added the Canadian, who finished fourth in the same event at the most recent World Championships.
The 21-year-old placed fifth in the preliminaries before reaching the third step of the podium in the finals in Paraguay.
“It was a long day, but I’m happy with my performance. Coming back from the World Championships with a fourth-place finish has motivated me to work even harder,” said the London native.
Fung performed her best dive on her final attempt, which earned her 73.60 points and allowed her to clinch third place. “My last dive saved me because I slightly missed my fourth dive. Overall, I am very proud of my performance,” declared the youngster.
Meanwhile, Ontario’s Kate Miller took seventh place with a score of 279.05 points.
For her part, Quebec’s Amélie-Laura Jasmin ranked fifth in the preliminaries of the women’s 3-meter springboard competition with a tally of 234.60 points. She will compete in the final on Tuesday.
On the men’s side, Montreal’s Matt Cullen took second spot in the qualifying round on the 10-meter platform with a total of 437.15 points, while his Quebec counterpart Benjamin Tessier finished sixth with 379.65 points. Both athletes will take part in the final on Tuesday.
On Saturday, British Columbia’s Carson Paul finished seventh in the men’s 1-meter springboard final with 338.40 points. Cuba’s Frank Rosales claimed gold with a score of 384.80 points, beating Mexico’s David Vazquez (373.50 points) and Colombia’s Miguel Tovar (359.75 points).
