Katelyn Fung comes in fourth in the 10m platform

Montréal, July 31, 2025 – Ontario’s Katelyn Fung was the only Canadian in the 10m individual final Thursday, at the World Aquatics Championship, taking place in Singapore. The 21-year-old diver took fourth, in this, her first-ever participation in the World Championships.

“Honestly, I haven’t realized what happened quite yet, but I can say I’m more than satisfied with my performance. Fourth place at my first individual world championships is incredible,” said Fung.

The Ontario diver collected 343.20 points to finish just off the podium in fourth. The podium was dominated by China’s Yuxi Chen, whose impressive score of 430.50 earned her gold. Germany’s Pauline Alexandra Pfeif (367.10) and China’s Peiling Xie (358.20) took silver and bronze, respectively.

“After my last dive, I didn’t totally understand what was going on. She [her coach, Yihua Li] was jumping for joy and was looking super happy. My coaches congratulated me and hugged me. It was a really special feeling,” shared Fung. “This really wasn’t on my bingo card for 2025 at all!”

Between the preliminaries and the final, Fung made the potentially risky decision to change one of her dives. “I told my coach I had nothing to lose,” noted Fung. In the end, her decision proved to be the right move – “I thought it was a great opportunity to practice this dive under pressure,” Fung added.

The London, Ontario based athlete had placed 12th in the preliminaries, before finishing fifth in the semi-finals.

“I knew that if I landed four out of five dives – like I did in the final – I’d end up with a solid result, but I never expected to finish in the top-4 in the world!”

Fung performed her best dive on her very last run on the platform, earning 81.80 points, and most importantly, enabling her to climb to fourth place.

“It’s my favorite dive. I love finishing with this dive, because it’s the one that gives me the most confidence. I managed to do it well twice today,” enthused the Ontario native.

In the 3m springboard event, British Columbia’s Carson Paul qualified for Friday’s semi-final. He finished 12th with 391.75 points.
