Hopeful Indicators in Ringette Canada Annual Report

OTTAWA, ON (October 22, 2020) – With the release today of its 2019-2020 Annual Report, Ringette Canada is confirming significant, tangible progress on all of its strategic priorities.

“Obviously, COVID-19 has been a monumental test of patience and resilience, but this report reminds us of the solid foundation we’ve built in our sport – a foundation that positions us extremely well to get through this period and excel when we’re beyond the pandemic,” said Natasha Johnston, Executive Director of Ringette Canada.

Johnston reiterated that none of the accomplishments described in the Annual Report would have been possible without the extraordinary passion, commitment and cooperation of the entire ringette community and, in particular, the Provincial Ringette Organizations.

Highlights for each of the strategic priorities are listed below:

  1. Fostering Growth in Ringette
  • At a time when most sports are struggling with steady declines in participation, ringette registrations hit an all-time high of more than 32,300, marking the fifth consecutive year of growth.
  • Almost half (45%) of all participants at Come Try Ringette events took the next step and registered with their local association.
  • All of Ringette Canada’s social media platforms saw jumps in activity, highlighted by a 26% increase in Instagram followers and more than 48,000 YouTube views of the 2019 World Ringette Championships
  1. Enriching the Participant Experience
  • 97% of all participants at the 2019 Canadian Ringette Championships indicated that the event met or exceeded their expectations.
  • 97% of all registered ringette teams had a qualified female coach on the bench, in compliance with Ringette Canada policy.
  • Females make up a whopping 75% of all active ringette officials.
  1. Organizational Excellence
  • For the third consecutive event, Canada’s Junior National Team earned the gold medal at the 2019 World Ringette Championships in Burnaby, BC. The Senior National Team claimed silver.
  • The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, through True Sport, formally recognized Ringette Canada as a leading National Sport Organization in promoting and modeling values-based sport.
  1. Aligning the Ringette Community
  • Recognizing the shared need for sponsorship revenues, Ringette Canada and all Provincial Ringette Organizations formed a collective consortium to leverage common sponsorship opportunities.

Johnston noted that Ringette Canada remains committed to advancing all of its strategic priorities this year, recognizing that the pandemic has had a dramatic impact on every aspect of the sport.

The primary focus remains a safe return to play, she added. Provincial Ringette Organizations are implementing well-constructed plans in an effort to bring back ringette as quickly – and as safely – as possible. The health and well-being of all participants – players, coaches, officials and spectators – remains the number one preoccupation.
