Grant Applications Open for Boccia Canada’s Take the Shot Program

Ottawa, ON (March 19, 2025) – Exciting news for communities, schools, and boccia clubs across Canada! Applications are now open for Boccia Canada’s Take the Shot Program, a national initiative made possible through the Community Sport for All Initiative from the Government of Canada.

Take the Shot aims to create more opportunities for individuals of all abilities to experience this inclusive sport. The program was originally developed in the lead up to the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games and is now expanding to help boccia continue to grow across Canada.

Interim Executive Director Jennifer Larson encourages applications from across the country. “Boccia is truly a sport for all, and through this program, more people in more communities across Canada will have the chance to experience the joy of this sport.”

Three different grants are available to help introduce, develop and support community boccia programming:

  • Try-It Event Grants – Funding for municipalities, communities, and clubs to host boccia “Try-It” events where participants can ‘take the shot’ and give boccia a try
  • Try-It School Grants – Support for community organizations to partner with schools and deliver in-school boccia sessions and boccia competitions, so students can try boccia in a structured, fun, and supportive environment.
  • Club Support Grants – Assistance for new and existing boccia clubs/programs for equipment, facility rentals, coaching education, and skill development.

Beyond grants, Take the Shot also offers free online resources, including instructional videos, printable activity sheets, and other skill-building resources to help introduce boccia in various settings.

Find out more about Take the Shot here. Apply for a Take the Shot Grant here with a deadline of March 30, 2025.
