[TORONTO, ON] July 23, 2025 – Canadians Alexis Galarneau (Laval, QC) and Nicolas Arseneault (Richmond Hill, ON) will join compatriots Liam Draxl (Newmarket, ON) and Vasek Pospisil (Vernon, BC) in receiving main-draw wild cards for the 2025 National Bank Open presented by Rogers (NBO), Tennis Canada announced on Wednesday.
Galarneau, 26, who recently re-entered the Top 200 (No. 198) after reaching the quarter-finals of the Granby National Bank Championships, an event he won in 2023, will be making his third appearance in the NBO main draw. The last time he was in Toronto, he lost a hard-fought match to world No. 22 Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Galarneau has missed part of the 2025 season due to injury and will be looking to build on his success in Granby when he returns to the Ontario capital.
Arseneault, the current No. 1-ranked Canadian junior and is one of Canada’s emerging players on the men’s circuit, will be making his debut in the main draw of an ATP Tour event. In 2024, he took part in qualifying at the NBO in Montreal, falling to American Brandon Nakashima, world No. 52. Since the start of the season, the 18-year-old has played a mixture of ATP Challenger and ITF tournaments, reaching the final of the Santo Domingo M25 in June. Last Monday, he reached a career-high ranking of No. 621.
“We’re excited to have seven Canadian men competing in the main draw of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers,” said Tournament Director, Karl Hale. “Canadian fans always support their own, and they will have plenty to cheer for during this year’s tournament. Congratulations to Alexis [Galarneau] and Nicolas [Arseneault], who we’re sure will represent themselves and Canada well in the main draw. The tournament’s final wild card was awarded to Italy’s Matteo Gigante by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP) under an agreement which will see Tennis Canada receive a WTA main-draw wild card to enter the 2026 Internazionali BNL d’Italia. Gigante, world No. 127, qualified for his first Grand Slam main draw this year at the Australian Open, and followed it up by reaching the third round of the French Open.
FOUR CANADIANS TO COMPETE IN ONE-DAY QUALIFYING EVENT
Tennis Canada also confirmed that Juan Carlos Aguilar (Montreal, QC), Alvin Nicholas Tudorica (Toronto, ON), Dan Martin (Laval, QC), and Justin Boulais (Oakville, ON) will receive wild cards into qualifying, held on Saturday, July 26, during 407 ETR Family Weekend in association with LEGO. Aguilar, 26, leads the Canadian contingent in qualifying as world No. 411. In January, he won the M15 event in Kingston, Jamaica – the second singles title of his career. Tudorica, 23, and Martin, 26, have also won M15 titles in 2025, in Huamantla and Villahermosa, respectively. Twenty-three-year-old Boulais has enjoyed success in Canada, reaching the M25 final in Laval earlier this month. Aguilar, Martin, and Boulais will be playing in qualifying at the NBO for the second time, while Tudorica gears up to make his debut.
The 32-player qualifying draw will consist of 16 matches, with each winner earning their spot in the tournament’s main event. From July 27 to August 7, the main draw will take place as part of the new 12- day format featuring 96-players.
