Five-Run Fifth Propels Canada to Gold Medal Game at Canada Cup

Surrey, B.C. – The Quick Story:  

Team Canada exploded for five runs in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie and defeat the Netherlands 6–1 in playoff action at the 2025 Canada Cup. With the win, Canada advances to the gold medal game, set for Saturday, July 13 at 6:00 p.m. PDT / 9:00 p.m. EDT

Key Moment:  

After a pitching change by the Netherlands in the fifth, Canada’s offense found its rhythm. Natalie Wideman opened the scoring with a single up the middle to bring home Janet LeungLarissa Franklin followed with a single to right, scoring Callum Pilgrim and Wideman. CC Wong then delivered a two-run homer to cap the five-run inning.

  • Larissa Franklin: 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs 
  • CC Wong: 1-for-4 with a 2-run home run 
  • Janet Leung: 1-for-1 with a walk and 2 runs scored 
  • Jana Want: 1-for-1 with an RBI 
  • Natalie Wideman: 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored

  • Morgan Rackel was dominant in the start, throwing 5.0 shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 4. 
  • Morgan Reimer pitched the final 2 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits to close out the game.

Canada will play for gold tonight (July 13) at 6:00 pm PDT / 9:00 pm EDT. Their opponent will be determined by the result of the 1:00 p.m. PDT semifinal game.
