Event Recap: 2025 U14, Junior & Cadet Pan American Championships – Asunción, Paraguay

Team Canada had a proud showing at the U14, Junior, and Cadet Pan American Karate Championships held in Paraguay, earning a total of 7 medals — 1 Gold, 3 Silver, and 3 Bronze. Competing against top talent from across the Americas, Canada’s young athletes gave their all on the international stage and represented their country with determination, respect, and team spirit.

 Historic Highlight & Medal Wins:

  • Mariana Guerrero delivered a standout performance, clinching Gold in the Junior Female +66kg category. With this victory, she becomes a 4-time Pan Am Champion, solidifying her legacy as one of Canada’s top young athletes.
  • Donya Movaffagh impressed in the Junior Female -66kg, earning a Silver Medal.
  • Ly Lan Bricteux fought her way to a Silver in Junior Female -53kg.
  • Sophie Makrygiannis & Nelia Arib captured Canada’s first medals of the event in the U14 division, each earning a Bronze.
  • Cadence Truong added to the tally with a Bronze in Female Kata.
  • Samantha Lam secured a Bronze in the Junior Female -48kg, rounding out Canada’s medal haul.“This team showed incredible heart, resilience, and unity throughout the event,” said Karate Canada Team Leader, Rodney Hobson. “Behind every medal was the support of amazing club coaches, national coaches and teammates who lifted each other up every step of the way. The spirit of Team Canada was on full display, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we accomplished together.”
