TORONTO (November 6, 2023) – Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO) would like to congratulate Team Canada on a successful Pan Am Games in Santiago, Chilie. The Canadian Team delivered inspiring and powerful performances, bringing home 164 medals – 46 Gold, 55 Silver, 63 Bronze. The best non-home Pan Am Games for Team Canada since 1995 in Mar del Plata, Argentina!
Ontario athletes dominated at the Games with 98 Ontario athletes winning a total of 76 medals – 23 Gold, 25 Silver, 28 Bronze. Ontario athletes won 46.3% of Team Canada’s medals.
Whether in the water, or on the court, track, or field, CSIO affiliated athletes won an impressive 61 medals in Santiago – 23 Gold, 18 Silver, 20 Bronze.
CSIO AFFILIATED ATHLETE – QUICK FACTS
- Maggie Mac Neil won 7 medals at the Games (5 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze), an all-time best among Canadian swimmers (tied with teammate Mary-Sophie Harvey). Mac Neil is also the only Canadian athlete across all sports to win five golds at a single Pan Am Games.
- Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson won Silver in Women’s Beach Volleyball, marking the second-straight Finals appearance for Humana-Paredes at the Games, having won Gold with former partner Sarah Pavan at Lima 2019.
- Canada’s Track Cycling Teams dominated the velodrome winning Gold in Men’s and Women’s Team Pursuit and Men’s Team Sprint, and the Women’s Sprint Team winning Bronze.
- Athletics athlete Sarah Mitton continued her stellar year, winning Gold in Shot Put the event.
