Crawford 2nd in Super-G Continues Canadian Success in Kvitfjell

Calgary, AB. (March 9, 2025) — Strong results for Canadian men in Kvitfjell (NOR) continued today at the FIS Ski World Cup super-G with James Crawford (Toronto, ON) racing to second place. Canada now has five podiums over the last three seasons in Kvitfjell, including a second-place finish for Crawford in 2022. Canada has wins in Kvitfjell from Cameron Alexander in 2022, Erik Guay in 2014 and 2010, and Manuel (Manny) Osborne-Paradis in 2009.

Starting from a lower start due to fog, Crawford, in his 50^th World Cup super-G (SG) start, was in the leader’s chair for five racers before settling for second. This is Crawford’s six career World Cup podium and today’s result, in the seventh of eight SG races this season, moves Crawford into the top 10 in the SG season standings heading into World Cup Finals in a couple of weeks in Sun Valley (USA).

“Super happy with the day,” said a smiling Crawford. “You really had to be on the gas pedal today and to be willing to put it on the line. I was able to ski smoothly from top to bottom and to bring speed from section to section.

“Canadians have been notoriously fast here in Kvitfjell. A lot of us feel comfortable here as the snow is very similar to what we grew up skiing on in Canada. That helps us to bring our best skiing and to push from top to bottom.”

Two other Canadians finished in the points today with Jeffrey Read (Canmore, AB) 20^th, his fifth top 30 in SG this season, and Brodie Seger (North Vancouver, BC) 29^th for his ninth points earning result this season. Raphael Lessard (Bromont, QC) was 40^th while Riley Seger (North Vancouver, BC) 53^rd.

Meanwhile, racing in challenging conditions with snow and fog impacting visibility at the FIS Ski World Cup women’s slalom in Are (SWE), Amelia Smart (Invermere, BC) led the Canadians with a 25^th place finish for her fourth points earning result in the ninth of 10 slalom races this season

Ali Nullmeyer (Toronto, ON) and Laurence St-Germain (St. Ferréol-les-Neiges, QC) missed out on advancing to today’s second run.
