Celebrating 15 Years of Women and Leadership

After more than 15 years Canadian Women & Sport’s Women and Leadership program is coming to an end this spring.

The program, made up of a series of six professional development workshops, blended theory with practical applications to empower people to build their leadership capacity.

Since 2004, Women and Leadership facilitators delivered hundreds of workshops across the country on topics like conflict resolution, effective communication, influencing change, and more. From coast to coast to coast, our network of nearly 100 facilitators championed the advancement of women in sport both within their communities and nationally.

As a result of Women and Leadership:

  • Over 100 sport organizations of all levels accessed professional development for their staff and members.
  • Thousands of participants working and volunteering in the sport and physical activity sector accessed workshops to improve their leadership skills, and connect and network with their colleagues in the sport sector.
  • Facilitators reported an improvement in their effectiveness as leaders in the sport sector and in increase in other professional opportunities thanks to the experience.

“The Women and Leadership program has provided an important space for women to feel connected, safe and supported over the years. It has been central to Canadian Women & Sport’s growth and impact. As we continue our mission of systemic change, we are refocusing our efforts on removing barriers to women as leaders by working with sport organizations to create safe, inclusive and equitable leadership opportunities for all women,” says Allison Sandmeyer-Graves, Chief Executive Officer at Canadian Women & Sport.

At Canadian Women & Sport, we are grateful to our funders, partners, facilitators, and participants for making Women and Leadership such a success. This program is an important part of our history and our efforts toward achieving gender equity in sport.

This program was made possible over many years by the Government of Canada.
