10 GTA Sport Organizations Say Yes to Gender Equity with the Same Game Challenge
Canadian Women & Sport is proud to announce the 10 sport and recreation organizations located in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) that recently begun their gender equity journey in the third cohort of the Same Game Challenge. This cohort takes place from October 2023 to April 2024.
Through the Same Game Challenge, sport leaders will build competencies and develop the skills they need to close gender equity gaps as well as create positive and sustainable change in sport. The program provides sport leaders with learning opportunities, mentorship, action planning and collaboration through a step-by-step process and tools.
“The work we continue to do in the GTA is so fun and meaningful. I am looking forward to welcome 10 more organizations across the region to the Same Game Challenge,” said Leah Ferguson, Program Manager at Canadian Women & Sport. “
GTA organizations that embarked on a gender equity journey are:
- Broad Reach Foundation for Youth Leaders
- Corporation of the Town of Ajax
- Mavericks Water Polo Club
- North Toronto Soccer Club Nitros/Kicks
- Play Forever
- Toronto Catholic District School Board
- Central York Girls Hockey Association
- Provincial Women’s Softball Association
- Muay Thai Youth
- The Boxing Loft
Selected organizations target some of the most diverse communities within the GTA to help build better and safer sport for girls, women and gender-diverse people through an intersectional gender equity lens.
“By the end of Same Game I want to have a clear understanding of the challenges facing young female athletes at each stage of their athletic journey, so that I can better serve and communicate with our entire audience in a way to address gender inequities in the sport,” said Heidi Tsao, Founder of Muay Thai Youth.
Canadian Women & Sport has partnered with Nike Canada to fund the three cohorts of the Same Game Challenge, for a total of30 sport, physical activity and recreation organizations within the GTA committed to prioritizing girls’ access to sport.
We thank Nike Canada for funding this opportunity for these organizations.
