HELSINKI, FINLAND (April 5, 2025) – After finishing fifth in Friday’s short program, Les Suprêmes (Saint-Léonard, QC) had an excellent second day at the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships taking place in Helsinki, Finland. The Quebec team delivered a season’s best free program, earning 150.91 points and climbing one spot in the final rankings to finish just below the podium with a total score of 219.41.
Team Nova (Saint-Hubert, QC) earned a season’s best score of 139.80 points on Saturday, bringing their total to a season-high 209.07 and a fifth-place finish.
Three-time defending World Champions Les Suprêmes ceded their throne to the Helsinki Rockettes (235.37), who delighted the local fans by winning the gold medal after a close fight with their compatriots Team Unique, who finished second with 234.29 points.
Team Unique also finished first in the free program, just ahead of the Helsinki Rockettes. The American team Haydenettes (224.77) completed the podium in the overall rankings.
After an obvious disappointment the day before, Olivia Di Giandominico, co-captain of Les Suprêmes, admitted that this second day of competition allowed her team to end the season on a more than positive note.
“We are very happy with our free program today,” Di Giandominico said. “We wanted to go out on the ice and go at it all like we do in training. We are proud of the way we skated. Overall, it was a great week in Finland, we had a lot of fun for our last competition of the season.”
Pride was also the feeling that emerged from Nova co-captain Alycia O’Leary, who mentioned that she and her team were carried away by the energy of the crowd throughout their time at the World Championships.
“We were very proud of ourselves when we left the rink,” O’Leary shared. “We were able to put on two great performances at the World Championships in front of a passionate crowd. It was a truly magical week. We always feel something special when we skate here in Finland.”
