With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games fast approaching, the Canadian Recurve team is preparing for one last shot at earning more quota spots for the Games in Turkey later this month.

The event will consist of two parts, the first being a Final Qualification tournament (FQT), from June 14th – 17th, where countries still looking to earn an individual or team quota spot for the games, will compete for the final spots available. At this time, Canada has earned (1) male quota and (1) female quota for the Olympic Games, and will be trying to earn a full men’s team quota at the qualification event. The men’s team chasing that quota will be:

Eric Peters, Kitchener, ON
Devaang Gupta, Toronto, ON
Reece Wilson-Poyton, St. Catherines, ON

At the time of selection, the number of women who had met the criteria for selection and eligible to compete at the event, was not enough to field a women’s team for the FQT.

Staff for the FQT will be National Team Advisor, Ron van der Hoff and National Team Performance Lead, Joe Leszner.

Following the Olympic Qualifier, from June 18th to 23rd, the men’s team will be joined by Virginie Chénier (Montreal, QC) and Stephanie Barrett (Toronto, ON) with Brandon Xuereb (Montreal, QC) taking one of three spots on the men’s side, replacing Wilson-Poyton, at the third and final stop of the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Antalya Turkey.

Staff for the World Cup will be National Team Advisor, Ron van der Hoff, and coach Linda Price.

Following the World Cup, the last two team quotas for the Paris 2024 Games, will be awarded based on team world ranking, as of June 24th 2024, where the Top 2 teams who have not yet earned a quota following the completion of the Turkey World Cup, will earn a team quota to the Paris Games. Currently the men’s team is ranked 9th, which is the highest ranking to date for the Canadian Men’s team.

Following the team’s success in Yecheon, Korea, the team is looking to capitalize on those recent performances as they prepare for the final push for the Olympic Games, and final international event before our Canadian Team takes the field at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
