Canada Opens with a Win in Women’s Softball at The World Games 2025

Chengdu, China – The Quick Story:

The Canadian Women’s Softball Team opened their World Games campaign with a hard-fought 11-9 victory over Puerto Rico, overcoming a strong offensive push from their opponents to secure the win. Canada’s offense was the story of the day, scoring 11 runs on 15 hits. Morgan Rackel pitched four innings of relief to seal the deal as Canada improved to 1-0 in pool play.

Key Moments – Game vs. Puerto Rico:
In the fifth inning, after one run was across for Puerto Rico, Morgan Rackel worked out of a bases loaded jam without giving up another run. The following inning, Grace Messmer drove a two-run double over the right fielder’s head, to put the Canadian side ahead three runs, a lead they would never relinquish.

Canada will be back in action against Australia on Thursday, with first pitch scheduled for 10:00am China Standard time (10:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday).
