Canada names short track team for inaugural World Tour event in Montreal

MONTREAL, QUEBEC – Speed Skating Canada unveiled today the 10 athletes that will be lacing up their skates to take part in the inaugural stop of the all-new ISU Short Track World Tour, which will take place in Montreal from October 25-27.

The iconic Maurice-Richard Arena in Montreal, longtime training centre for the Canadian national program, has been tasked with hosting the first-ever stop of this new international circuit, which replaces the former World Cup circuit. This new concept developed by the International Skating Union will combine on-ice and off-ice changes to improve the competition experience for all participants, from the athletes on the ice to the spectators in the stands and watching across the globe.

The 10 skaters below have been selected to represent Canada at the first two ISU Short Track World Tour stops in Montreal (October 25-27) and Salt Lake City (November 1-3). The World Tour will then make its way to Beijing, China, Seoul, South Korea, and Tilburg, Netherlands, before a final stop in Milan, on the same rink that will host the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

A new competition format during the World Tour – with three individual distances per weekend featuring all the top skaters, as well as the men’s, women’s and mixed relays – will help increase the level of competition and make the racing even more exciting.

Athletes will once again be vying for the coveted Crystal Globe, awarded to the top ranked male and female skaters of the season. This season will also see the addition of the new Team Crystal Globe – awarded to the team with the highest number of individual and relay points – which will lead to increased rivalries between countries as they compete for the chance to be crowned short track’s best nation.

The atmosphere in the Maurice Richard Arena will be electric. Spectators will experience new branding and in-venue entertainment between the races that will bring the World Tour to life. Visit www.courtepiste.ca to grab your seats for this historic event, with single day tickets starting at $15 and weekend passes starting at $26.MEDIA ACCREDITATION
