Canada loses Game 1 of Super Round 3-1 to Argentina at 2023 WBSC U23 Men’s Softball World Cup

Parana, Argentina – The U23 Men’s National Softball Team kicked off the Super Round of the 2023 WBSC U23 Men’s Softball World Cup with a 3-1 loss to Argentina (1-1) in seven innings.

Starting in the circle for Team Canada and making his third start of the tournament was Riley Manion (Napanee, Ont.)

Argentina opened the scoring early in the top of the second inning off a single to right field, followed by a single to center field to make it 2-0.

In the top of the third inning, Canada made a pitching change and brought in Reese Yantzi (Shakespeare, Ont.)

Canada got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when Dallas Kipfer (Breslau, Ont.), hit a single to right field, and then made it to second base on a wild pitch. Tyler Branchaud (Metcalfe, Ont.), came in to pinch run for Kipfer, eventually scoring off a wild pitch to make it 2-1.

Argentina added to their lead in the top of the sixth inning off a double to deep left center, 3-1.

Canada made another pitching change in the top of the seventh inning, bringing in Jordan Hudson (Saskatoon, Sask.).

Unfortunately Canada could not get their bats’ swinging tonight and they fall to Argentina 3-1.

Canada (1-2) will play its second game of the Super Round against Mexico at 2:30pm ART on Friday, April 21.
