Canada beats Cuba to kick off NORCECA Championship

Volleyball Canada  – SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, October 8, 2019:  Canada opened the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship with a win over Cuba 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-17, 25-14) on Tuesday at Roberto Clemente Coliseum.
  
Canada led in kills 44-35 and blocks (10-6) as well as in serves (10-5). Canada also scored on 33 opponent errors compared with 26 by Cuba.
 
Outside hitter Alexa Gray led with 21 points for Canada, followed by teammate Kiera Van Ryk with 20 points, including six aces. Middle blocker Melanies Arcia and outside hitter Ivy May Vila topped Cuba with 10 points apiece.
 
The NORCECA Women’s Championship, which qualifies teams to the NORCECA final four Olympic Qualifier in January, is being streamed on NORCECA TV.
 
Canada plays Costa Rica on Wednesday.
