Canadian boxers will have a new opportunity to compete on home soil with the launch of the Boxing Canada Open in The city of Calgary has been selected as the host for this inaugural event through 2025. An international open, this participation-based boxing competition will regroup the Junior, Youth and Elite categories under the same roof, gathering approximately 300+ of the best boxers from across North America and elsewhere. They will face each other in the hopes of becoming champions in their respective weight categories.
The first edition of the Boxing Canada Open will be held from September 13 to 17, 2023. The competition will unfold at the Genesis Centre, a multi-purpose complex located in Northeast Calgary.
“What better opportunity and solution for our historical shortage of major competitions in Canada,” said Roy Halpin, Boxing Canada’s Executive Director. “An additional event for our boxers to compete and sharpen their international exposure as part of their development is a critical part of building our High Performance pathway and results nationally and internationally. This annual event is looking to grow and attract up to 1,500 athletes annually from multiple countries in the future. The Boxing Canada Open will help provide additional competition experience to Canadian boxers and grow the sport of boxing at all levels. It will also provide valuable learning opportunities for Canadian coaches, referees and judges, and officials.
