Bogdan Hamilton Places 8th in Cabries, France at Cadet Circuit

Canadian Fencing Federation – Canada had two fencers travel to Cabries, France this weekend, Sabrina Fang (EFC, BC) and Bogdan Hamilton (UNA, QC), to compete in the cadet circuit in foil. Hamilton, with his best finish this season, placed 8th.

In the pool stage, Hamilton won 4 of 6 bouts which earned him a bye in the table of 256. In the following round, Hamilton beat out France’s Guillaume Caulier with a close bout of 15-13, followed by another win in the table of 64 over William Kelly of the USA (15-13). The table of 32 saw Hamilton’s victory over Germany’s Bastian Kappus 15-5. In the home stretch, Bogdan beat the USA’s Ethan Xiao 15-4 in the table of 16, but unfortunately fell in the table of 8 to Brandon Li 15-10, also of the USA. Bogdan Hamilton is currently ranked 46th in the world for foil cadets, and is the top male Canadian athlete for this category.

Next week, junior athletes will take to the international stage in Bucharest, Tokyo, Bangkok and Sosnowiec for various Junior World Cups, including Patrick Liu, who is currently ranked 20th in the world for junior men’s foil.

As well, registration for the Grand Prix Open in Montreal is open. This event is for sabre athletes and will be held on January 2nd. The top ranked individuals from this one-day event will earn an invitation to the Sabre Grand Prix in Montreal, January 10-12, 2020.
