Biathlon Canada Receives $660,000 from the Government of Canada to Expand Access to Sport

Ottawa, ON — June 23 — Biathlon Canada is proud to announce it has received $660,000 over two years in funding from the Government of Canada’s Community Sport for All Initiative to expand its successful electronic biathlon programming further across the country. This investment will enable Biathlon Canada to distribute funding grants to over 30 clubs and community organizations who in turn will deliver biathlon programs that are more inclusive and accessible.

With this support, clubs and community organizations across the country are receiving funding to purchase electronic biathlon equipment, deliver inclusive programming, and offer coach training opportunities. These initiatives are designed to engage Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities, 2SLGBTQI+ individuals, persons with a disability, low-income populations, and newcomers to Canada.

“Electronic biathlon has transformed how our sport is delivered,” said Kerry Dankers, CEO of Biathlon Canada. “This investment allows us to bring biathlon into communities—indoors and outdoors—so that more Canadians can experience the sport in fun, accessible, and inclusive ways.”

Programs will be delivered throughout the year, bringing the excitement and benefits of electronic biathlon to communities across Canada. By making the sport accessible in every season, these initiatives help break down traditional barriers and create inclusive opportunities for people of all backgrounds to participate and enjoy the sport.

Biathlon Canada is also supporting para-biathlon specific programming by partnering with disability sport organizations and para-nordic ski clubs to ensure meaningful opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate and compete in the sport.

This investment is part of the Government of Canada’s Community Sport for All Initiative, which aims to remove barriers and increase sport participation for underrepresented populations. Through this support, Biathlon Canada and its partners are helping to create welcoming environments where more people can experience the joy and benefits of sport. Be sure to watch for events in your area.

Biathlon Canada extends its gratitude to Sport Canada for its continued support and leadership in building stronger and healthier communities through sport.
