Beijing 2022 athletes to join Martha McCabe and Benoît Huot for Champion Chats

OTTAWA (February 17, 2022)  Based on popular demand from Canadian educators across the country, Team Canada Champion Chats (TCCC) is returning to connect Beijing 2022 Olympians and Paralympians with Canadian school children.

The Winter Live Chat, which will stream on February 23 at 12:30pm EST, will feature several Team Canada Olympians who participated at Beijing 2022 as well as Paralympic athletes in their final preparations for the upcoming Paralympic Games. They will engage young Canadians by sharing their experiences, the lessons learned, and the values gained throughout their path to the Games.

TCCC also announced that two-time Olympian Martha McCabe will be joining legendary Paralympic champion, Benot Huot, as a host.

Im honoured to join Benot and some of Canadas top athletes to connect with young classrooms, said McCabe. And while we are all united by sport, these chats are an opportunity to prove that you can realize your dreams, whatever they may be, with a little bit of perseverance and resilience.

Huot, who retired as a nine-time Para swimming champion, will be hosting his fifth consecutive French TCCC live chat. McCabe will host in English.

Team Canada Champion Chats is such a fantastic, unique way to connect the countrys top athletes with school children, and I am thrilled to be a part of it once again. There is so much we can learn from the stories of our Beijing 2022 athletes, and I am excited to help bring these to kids across Canada so they too can become champions in their own way, however big or small,” said Huot.

In addition to the live chats, TCCC will release English and French educational videos and other resources for parents and teachers to bring the many lessons from the Olympic and Paralympic Games into their homes and classrooms.

Teachers, parents, and students can access the Winter Live chat by signing up for the program online (championchats.olympic.ca).

The group of Beijing 2022 athletes will be named at a later date.

Team Canada Champion Chats, a partnership between the Canadian Olympic Committee, Canadian Paralympic Committee, and Classroom Champions, is a free national education program designed to empower Canadian students to focus on themes including embracing challenges, mental health, diversity and inclusion, achieving goals, and ultimately become a champion in their community.
