Beach Brief: Three Canadian Teams Reach the Podium in Halifax

August 25: Canada earned two silvers and a bronze medal at this weekend’s Beach Pro Tour Futures tournament in Nova Scotia. 

Canada won silver in the men’s event. England’s Frederick Bialokoz & Issa Batrane picked up their first Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour title after the gold-match 2-0 (21-14, 21-19) win over Canada’s Steven Abrams (Georgetown, ON) & Jonathan Pickett (Wiarton, ON)

Canada’s Chadwick/Kemp and MacNeil/Russell finished ranked 5th on the men’s side.

On the women’s side, Marie-Alex Bélanger (Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, QC) & Lea Monkhouse (Mississauga, ON) finished second to USA’s Anderson/Bauer 1-2 (18-21, 21-17, 15-17), and Mikayla Law-Heese (Aurora, ON) & Ruby Sorra (Scarborough, ON) won their bronze match 2-1 (19-21, 21-17, 15-12) over Pavelkova & Pavelkova of Czech Republic. Bélanger/Monkhouse beat Law-Heese/Sorra in the semifinals.

Fifth on the women’s side were fellow Canadians Aly/Kovacs and Corah/Goodman.

In total, 25 men’s and 19 women’s teams representing a total of 10 different countries took part in the Halifax Futures tournament. Futures events highlight up-and-coming talent on the Beach Pro Tour.

Sports & Entertainment Atlantic also organized this FIVB tournament in Halifax last year.
