Archers heading to Prince Albert for Canada Cup West

PRINCE ALBERT, SK – This weekend, sixty-nine archers from six provinces will be descending on Prince Albert for the 2023 Canada Cup West, organized by the Timberland Bowbenders in association with Archery Canada. The Saskatchewan city hosted the Canadian Outdoor Championships in 2019 and now turns its attention towards hosting the western iteration of the Canada Cup. The competition schedule includes an optional 720 round, the official 720 round used for qualification, as well as individual and mixed team matches.

While many of the archers are from Saskatchewan, there is a relatively large contingent from Manitoba and Alberta. The list of competitors boasts some notable archers, including those of Canadians with international experience. Austin Taylor, a native of Manitoba, has two medals at the World Championships level, is one such archer. Another, Dawn Groszko of Alberta,  competed and won the gold medal in the 50+ women’s compound division at the 2022 Youth and Masters Pan Am Championships in Halifax. There are also many other archers who have previous experience at the national level; Archery Canada is looking forward to seeing all of the competitors.

While some of the competition will be shooting in the recurve and barebow categories, over half of the archers will be shooting compound bows. There will be members of all three national squads (recurve, compound, and para) present at the event, which will serve as a great opportunity for them to train ahead of what promises to be a busy summer season.

“The Timberland Bowbenders Archery Club is excited and honoured to be welcoming some of Canada’s best archers to Prince Albert for the Canada Cup West,” says Stacey Moran, Chair of the Host Organizing Committee. “The club has been working hard, preparing the venue out at the Prince Albert Wildlife Federation to ensure a successful event and to give each archer a positive experience. We hope everyone succeeds in reaching their goals and enjoys the event!”

Archery Canada would like to extend a thank you to the host club and the Government of Canada for their support in putting on this and all of our national events.
