Amélie-Laura Jasmin Loads Up on Medals in Bolzano

Montréal, June 30, 2024 – Three medals in three events—and two of them gold! Amélie-Laura Jasmin enjoyed a dream weekend at the Bolzano Diving Meet in Italy, topping the podium in both the 3m individual event and the 3m synchronized event with Pamela Ware.

After placing third in the individual qualification rounds, Jasmin turned up the heat in the finals, accumulating a total of 283.80 points to easily secure the gold medal, 10.50 points ahead of Cuba’s Prisis Leid Ruiz Randich, who finished second.

Ware rounded out the podium with a score of 269.10.

On Sunday, Jasmin and Ware joined forces for the synchronized competition, where they took top honours (268.20) with a lead of 36 points over the second-place team.

“I’m really happy to have finished the season on a high note, in both the individual and synchronized events. I really enjoyed my first synchronized diving event, and I’m looking forward to next season. I took part in this competition to gain experience, so the two gold medals are a really nice bonus,” explained Jasmin.

Ruiz Randich and her Cuban teammate Anisley Garcia finished second, ahead of Italians Elettra Neroni and Matilde Borello (229.44 points).

Jasmin also won a bronze medal in the mixed 3m event with Victor Povzner. The Canadian duo was outscored only by the Germans and the Egyptians.

One-two Canadian finish on the platform

Two Canadians also excelled in the platform final, with Matt Cullen (403.20 points) clinching the top spot on the podium, just ahead of his compatriot Benjamin Tessier (399.25 points).

“I didn’t perform as well as I could have, but I’m happy to have won the silver medal. I learned a lot this weekend, and I’m looking forward to seeing how I can apply what I learned in the future,” said Tessier.

Alejandro Solarte Osorio of Colombia finished third with 387.65 points.

Earlier, the two Québécois had also dominated the qualification rounds, with Tessier coming out in first place, followed by Cullen.

The final Canadian medal of the weekend was secured by Éloïse Bélanger, who won bronze in the platform event. The 30-year-old diver amassed a total of 250.30 points and was bested only by Cuba’s Anisley Garcia Navarro (284.60 points) and Germany’s Carolina Coordes (263.10 points), who finished first and second, respectively.

“It was a pretty tough day. I made several errors in the preliminaries that I tried to correct in the finals. I didn’t perform as well as I had hoped. I had trouble staying vertical, but I managed to finish with a solid dive that got me onto the podium,” said Bélanger.

Katelyn Fung, who had placed first in the qualifying rounds, also took part in the final, finishing fourth with 234.10 points.

On the men’s side, Povzner and Thomas Ciprick finished fourth in the synchronized 3m final, which was won by Lou Massenberg and Jonathan Schauer of Germany.
