A Second Round Marked by Consistency and Twists and Turns at the Victoriaville–Fenergic Canada Cup

[Victoriaville, August 15, 2025] – The second round of the Victoriaville–Fenergic Canada Cup lived up to expectations on Friday at the Victoriaville Golf Club, as players resumed competition at 7:30 a.m. this morning, determined to earn a spot in the weekend bracket. Playing conditions were ideal, making the course even more strategically demanding.

A tightening leaderboard

After the first 36 holes, American AJ Cavotta (65) and Quebecers Marc-Olivier Plasse (66) and Joey Savoie took the lead with a score of -13, taking a slim lead over a very tight group of pursuers.

“The putter was cooperating a lot today. It feels good to finish a round on a high note with two birdies,” said Joey after his round of 63, clearly satisfied with his performance.

The biggest jump in the rankings was made by Dennis Hendershot -8 (64), who climbed 50 positions. Stephen Gonko also stood out with a first 9 of -7 (29) and a total of -8 (64), tying for 12th place.

Fierce competition, even among amateurs

The Subway Trophy, awarded to the best amateur player in the tournament, remains the subject of intense competition. After two rounds, Alexandre Mercier leads the charge with a cumulative score of -6, ahead of William Boudreault at -4. Their presence in the main draw is a testament to the high caliber of this 2025 edition.

Cut established, weekend bracket set

With a format that calls for a cut at the top 60 positions plus ties, several big names had to pull out all the stops at the end of the round to secure their place for the final two days. In all, 60 players will continue the competition on Saturday morning, when the action will intensify.

The third round will begin tomorrow, Saturday, August 16, at 7:42 a.m., in continuous format.

A must-see professional golf event

The Victoriaville–Fenergic Canada Cup is recognized as one of the most prestigious tournaments in independent Canadian professional golf. Since its inception in 2013, the event has awarded more than $1.6 million in prize money and attracts the elite from Canada, the United States, and even further afield year after year.

For the 2025 edition, a total prize pool of $140,000 is up for grabs, including $35,000 that will be awarded to the champion during Sunday’s final round.

The tournament is free for spectators, who can enjoy a lively and accessible venue.
