A Perfect Run this Week for Sara-Jade Tessier in Medellín

Montréal, May 15, 2025 – For the third time in as many days, Sara-Jade Tessier climbed to the top of the podium in Medellín, Colombia, winning the Group C 10-metre platform event at the Pan-American Aquatic Sports Championships.

The diver from Quebec, who captured gold medals in the 1m and 3m springboard competitions on days one and two of the Championships, completed a sweep of her category on Thursday by racking up an impressive score of 271.80.

“I was not expecting this at all! I wasn’t even expecting to win a medal, so I am very, very happy with how this competition turned out,” said a beaming Tessier, as she exited the pool.

“I landed a half-back today, and that’s what made the difference. I felt really proud when I heard the crowd gasp. [That dive] is what helped me win. This has given me a huge confidence boost, and I feel really motivated to keep training and be even stronger next time.”

In the same event, British Columbia’s Maia Jane also claimed a third medal in as many competitions at the Cesar Zapata Olympic Pool, this time a bronze with 236.75 points. In the past two days, she won two silver medals.

Mexico’s Romina Lira (262.30) was the silver medallist in today’s event.

Tessier was not the only Canadian to capture a gold medal on Thursday. Samuel Talbotalso claimed the top spot on the podium in the boys’ Group A 10m platform contest.

With a final score of 451.40, he edged out Mexico’s Carlos Uriel Solorzano Parra (447.90) and his Canadian teammate Kash Tarasoff, who secured bronze with 445.40 points.

“I’m really proud of how consistent I was during the competition. I managed to stay calm, even after a couple of less than great dives. I’m really happy, but also a bit surprised, because I dove better in the competition than I did during practice,” said Talbot.

“Kash is my roommate this week, and we’ve been joking around that we’d end up on the podium together. I can’t believe it actually happened!” he added.

In the same finals, Dean Calfacacos finished sixth, with a score of 391.80.

In the girls’ Group B 3m springboard event, Alberta’s Daniela Durevska captured the bronze medal with 329.00 points, behind Lia Lobato (656.60) and Mia Lobato (355.10), both of Mexico.

In the women’s open 1m springboard contest, Regina’s Lila Stewart finished fourth. Earlier this week, she won gold on the 3m springboard.

On Friday, five new events will be held at the Pan-American Aquatic Sports Championships. Lila Gokiert (Calgary) will take part in the women’s open 10m platform competition, while Daniela Durevska attempts to add a second medal to her haul, this time in the Group B 1m contest.

On the men’s side, Arnaud Corbeil (CAMO – CDI Montréal) and Emmitt Reesor (TDA – CDI Montréal) will compete in the men’s 3m open. Later in the day, Corbeil will be back on the 3m springboard for the boys’ Group A competition, along with Samuel McCaffrey(PCDC).
