39 Provincial Sport Organizations take action for gender equity in Sport

Canadian Women & Sport is thrilled to announce the 39 Provincial and Territorial Sport Organizations (PTSOs) chosen to participate in one of its core programs, the Gender Equity Playbook.

The Playbook gives sport leaders and their organizations the tools to make real changes by examining their policies, processes, and programs through an intersectional gender lens to understand where their gender inequities lie in. Throughout the program, organizations will learn to make informed decisions with actionable insights and customized strategies provided to them. By taking this program, participating PTSOs are advancing gender equity in their governance and learning new knowledge, skills and tools to improve operations.

“I am excited to see the enthusiasm for this type of work at the provincial level. It signals a commitment to change the system for the better across the nation,” says Leah Ferguson, Program Manager at Canadian Women & Sport.

The 39 participating organizations represent the following provinces and territory of Canada: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Yukon.

In 2024, 93% of sport leaders who participated in the Playbook reported increased gender equity knowledge, motivation, and skills.

Upon completion of the program, PTSOs will receive a $1,000 grant to invest towards effective gender equity improvements at the governance level.

This project has been funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada.
