Injury-related anxiety is common for athletes who fear re-injury. Integrating self-compassion techniques into injury rehabilitation plans may decrease worry and the physical symptoms of anxiety (i.e., butterflies), and reduce the use of avoidance-focused coping strategies (e.g., skipping practices, reducing training).
