Whitehorse United FC is a grassroots community club. Serving over 700 members, we are the vibrant heart of youth soccer in the Yukon. We offer inclusive programming to a diverse player base from U4-U18, including House divisions and high-performance academies. Our 10 club representative teams each travel 2-3 times annually to compete in BC, Alberta and beyond up to Canada Soccer club national championships. Club players feed into Yukon teams that compete at Canada Summer Games.

Under the direction and guidance of our CSA A-License and NCCP Level 5 certified Technical Director, and an energetic Board leadership, we have enjoyed significant participation growth across all our programs over the last 4 years. The time has come for us to hire a full-time qualified and experienced professional Staff Coach to supplement and support our volunteer coach base.

The annual salary is $61,880 plus MERCs and less statutory deductions, based on $34/hour.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Staff Coach primary responsibility will be to lead and actively coach the on-field programming of the club. The delivery of all programming will be guided by the technical direction, curriculum and season/session plans prepared by the Technical Director and accepted by the Board.

The Staff Coach will work together with our CSA-trained and qualified volunteer coaching base to deliver safe, high-quality youth soccer programming, undertaking the following duties:

Direct delivery of:

  • High performance EXCEL Academy U16-U18
  • Senior Northern Lights Academy U13-U15
  • Junior Northern Lights Academy U9-U12
  • U4-U5 Timbits First Kicks
  • Winter, spring and/or summer camps
  • Support and volunteer coach coverage to Development Travel Teams U10-U18
  • Yukon rural community soccer clinics (subject to funding partnerships);
  • Coach mentorship and on-field coordination of House program U6-U14;
  • On-field supervision of club tournaments including annual Toonie Festival;
  • Oversee administration of the Travel Team program as guided by the Travel Team policy;
  • Assist Technical Director with developing and implementing a coach training program;
  • Facilitation of female soccer development programs such as Free Girls Soccer;

Maintain and undertake a Professional Development Plan to grow in Technical Direction;
and any other similar duties as may arise from time to time and as may be required by
the Board.

We recognize and respect that every player has their own motivations to play and we seek to support every player to their own success. This position will best suit a coach who enjoys working directly with youth players of all ages, mixed abilities and diverse backgrounds.

Hours of Work

A typical working week will consist of an average of 35 hours. A working schedule will be mutually agreed which may be varied, from time to time, to reflect facility bookings, the seasonal operations of the club and meeting operational requirements.

During core seasons, which reflect the in-school calendar, the anticipated work schedule is: 25 hours of on-field time per week, and the remaining average 10 hours per week may be scheduled flexibly by mutual agreement to complete session preparation and other administrative duties.

Outside of core seasons, during school vacations, an amended schedule will be agreed as required to deliver the club’s annual plan for winter, spring and summer camp programming.

Travel within and outside Yukon for tournaments and training camps may be required.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Certification at, or working toward, C-License with the Canada Soccer Association Coach Education Program, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of players and ages in a community club setting.
  • Demonstrated Understanding of Long-Term Player Development approach
  • Commitment to the values and requirements of Safe Sport
  • Passion and enthusiasm for grassroots soccer and supporting holistic youth growth
  • Ability to lead, motivate and guide players and coaches
  • Respect for a club structure of technical direction and modes of play
