HIGH LEVEL JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:  Senior Manager, Health and Performance Solutions (2 positions)

OPERATIONAL INITIATIVE: Health and Performance Services – Optimizing performance through excellence in integrated sport science and medicine solutions

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Senior Manager, Health & Performance Solutions, is a senior leadership role at Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific). This position is designed to facilitate effective and efficient interdisciplinary performance solutions for National Sport Organizations (NSOs) and lead the deployment of Sport Science and Sport Medicine Practitioners. The Senior Manager will collaborate with the Director of Health and Performance Services to deliver targeted performance solutions and manage external relationships with NSOs, fulfilling the “CSI Advantage”. The role also offers the flexibility for candidates to continue supporting athletes and coaches in their respective performance science discipline, depending on the candidate’s background and expertise.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

  • Sport Science and Medicine Expertise: Broad knowledge of sport science and medicine disciplines, integrating experts as needed to support performance solutions

KEY DELIVERABLES & DUTIES:

  1. NSO Performance Solutions
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for targeted NSOs, providing performance solutions for National Team programs and Sport Canada Carded athletes.
  • Align and integrate NSO performance planning, offering trusted engagement and presenting efficient, targeted performance solutions.
  • Maintain close contact with NSO partners through regular meetings and annual review processes, including planning and consultations.
  • Utilize data and reporting to inform Sport Science and Sport Medicine (SSSM) interventions, making recommendations for performance solutions.
  • Collaborate with OTP Performance Sciences, Research and Innovation (PSRI) Advisors to maximize the effectiveness of sport-specific performance plans.
  • Lead the day-to-day management of relationships with NSOs and coordinate the development and management of annual Letters of Understanding (LOUs).
  • Improve partnerships by drafting and enhancing contractual LOUs for performance solution delivery.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing for performance solutions by coordinating with NSO partners and OTP (as required).
  • Monitor quarterly progress and adjust service delivery plans with NSOs and CSI Pacific staff to meet performance targets.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Performance Solutions to manage staff assignments for NSO requests
  1. CSI Pacific Organizational Duties
  • Engage in organizational meetings, events, and learning opportunities to enhance professional development.
  • Provide expertise for the development and implementation of other CSI Pacific programs.
  • Participate in bi-annual performance reviews and contribute to the ongoing improvement of CSI Pacific’s service offerings

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • Master’s degree in sports science, sport management, or related field (e.g., MHPCTL from UBC).
  • A minimum of 12 years of full-time equivalent experience in High Performance Sport.
  • Experience working as an Integrated Support Team (IST) lead or COPSIN discipline lead.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience in mentoring within high-performance sport.
  • A background in leadership development as both a mentee and mentor

DESIRABLE:

  • Experience as a former athlete or coach, or in a high-performance director/advisor role.
  • Certification as a Senior Practitioner in High Performance (e.g., Sport Scientist Canada).
  • Background in Sport Management or Sport Leadership

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

REQUIRED:

  • Strong working knowledge of sport science and sport medicine disciplines.
  • Experience mentoring sport scientists in high-performance environments.
  • Proven ability to develop performance solutions for National Sport Organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience with data management tools and databases.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset and ability to take direction

DESIRABLE:

  • Bilingualism is considered an asset

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Some travel will be required between CSI Pacific campuses
