The Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC) is pleased to announce a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a literature review exploring the history of Indigenous peoples and sport in Canada.
This project seeks to uncover and illuminate the diverse relationships between Indigenous communities, traditional and contemporary sport practices, and the impacts of colonization. SIRC is working with an Advisory Committee to guide this work.
The final report will serve as a resource to inform policy, programming, and reconciliation efforts across the Canadian sport system, with particular attention to advancing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
We invite researchers and organizations with experience in Indigenous and sport-related research to submit a proposal by Tuesday July 22, 2025. We especially welcome submissions from Indigenous researchers and teams that prioritize Indigenous methodologies and lived experience.
Project Overview: The research will:
- Analyze the historical role of sport in Indigenous communities.
- Investigate the colonial impacts of sport, including residential schools and cultural suppression.
- Highlight current Indigenous engagement in sport and Indigenous physical culture revitalization efforts
Submission Details: Proposals should include:
- A detailed research approach and project plan.
- A description of the research team, including relevant qualifications and experience
- A proposed budget (up to $15,000, with justification if exceeding this amount)
Final report submission is due by September 1, 2025.
