Events and Communications Intern

About us:

Diving Plongeon Canada is a non-profit organization and the national governing body for springboard, platform, and high diving. Recognized as a sport leader both domestically and internationally, diving is one of Canada’s top performance sports. The national federation’s staff includes eleven full-time employees and relies heavily on the contributions of interns. Interns have transitioned from their internships to play key roles within Diving Plongeon Canada and other national sports organizations.

Commitment: Full time
Duration: May 1st to August 21st, 2025 – expected, but flexible
Location: Primarily located at DPC head office in Ottawa (700 Industrial Ave), with the ability to work remotely on occasion, and on-site for select events.
Work Hours: Regular DPC Office hours are Monday to Friday – 9am to 5pm. Evenings and weekend work will be required when on-site at events.

Job Summary:

The Events and Communications Intern is a dynamic and critical role within the national office team at Diving Plongeon Canada. This position encompasses a broad range of responsibilities including digital project management, website maintenance, execution of communications strategies, and support for national programs. The role extends to vital support in sport development initiatives, particularly in creating and delivering programs for underrepresented communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and update content for the organization’s website and contribute to the day-to-day handling of all social media channels.
  • Organize and maintain a comprehensive photo archive for easy access and future use.
  • Provide communications support by preparing media guides, press releases, and internal communication documents for various federation events and programs.
  • Create graphic designs and layouts for various digital and print materials.
  • Offer logistical and operational support for event management tasks.
  • Assist with media and public relations activities to enhance the organization’s profile.
  • Collaborate with the sport development team to create and implement programs targeting underrepresented communities.
  • Engage in grassroots programming efforts, including attending events and delivering initiatives to promote the sport.
  • Promote the organization’s sustainability initiatives to educate and encourage partners and stakeholders to adopt environmentally responsible practices.

Desired Characteristics and Qualities:

  • Familiarity with office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, and Outlook).
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook).
  • Experience with various design applications (Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, video editing software, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong sense of initiative and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Bilingualism (EN/FR) – written and oral.

Performance Appraisal Process:

The intern will work collaboratively with the national office staff and will receive a formal evaluation at the middle and end of the internship.
