Organization Overview
Athletics Canada (AC) is the national sport organization for track and field, para athletics, cross-country, and road, mountain, and trail running. Our purpose is to support high performance athletics excellence at the world level, and to provide leadership in developmental athletics. Athletics Canada is a not-for-profit, charitable organization operating under a Board of Directors elected by provincial/territorial members.
Position Overview
The Coordinator, Masters Athletics, is responsible for the oversight and execution of programs and services for the Canadian Masters athletics community (athletes aged 35 and over). The role serves as the staff liaison between Athletics Canada, the Masters Committee, and other key stakeholders and reports to the Director, Domestic Programs and Safe Sport.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Coordinator, Masters Athletics, supports long-term planning and development for Masters programming based on strategy development with the support and guidance of the AC Masters Committee. Duties and responsibilities include the following:
Communications and Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all Masters-related inquiries (athletes, clubs, officials, etc.).
- Manage and oversee Masters-specific communications, including newsletters, announcements and updates. Works in tandem with the Coordinator, Communications to produce / feed Masters content for AC digital channels.
- Liaise with Masters Committee, provincial branches and relevant AC departments regarding Masters affairs.
Membership and Athlete Services
- Working with the Manager, IT, membership and statistics, validate proof of age, citizenship and membership documentation, as necessary.
Domestic Program Reporting
- Prepare Masters Report for the AC SAGM/AGM and other documents as requested.
Domestic Championships Coordination
- Liaise with the Masters Committee to develop hosting materials, identify potential hosts, review bids, and make hosting recommendations to the Competitions Committee.
- Act as the AC liaison to Local Organizing Committees (LOCs) to ensure all aspects of Championships are appropriately carried out, including compliance with current and evolving Masters rules, standards and policies.
Results, Records and Recognition
- Working with the Manager, IT, membership and statistics, coordinate the proper management and validation of Masters age group records.
- Coordinate national-level awards and recognition for outstanding Masters performances and contributions.
- Ensure all event scoring is done in accordance with WMA Age grade standards.
International Competition and Team Management
- Serve as Team Lead for WMA and North, Central American and Caribbean Masters Athletics (NCCMA) Championships.
- Act as the Team Manager of the Canadian team, or arrange managers as needed, and support team operations throughout the championships.
- Verify athlete eligibility and approve the registration of athletes as required by the international competition organizers.
- With input from Masters Committee, determine team services required and ensure that appropriate services (i.e. Therapy, etc.) are provided for Masters National Teams.
- Manage communications with Canadian team members before, during, and after international events including online orientation meetings.
Committee Leadership
- Serve on the AC Masters Committee and coordinate meetings, agendas, and action items for Masters governance and strategic development.
- Facilitate input from stakeholders to guide AC’s ongoing support for Masters athletes.
Ideal Qualifications and Characteristics
- Understanding of Masters athletics – rules, age categories, competition format and culture of the Masters community including familiarity with international Masters competition (WMA and NCCMA)
- Strong organizational skills – capable of managing multiple programs, deadlines and communications streams at once
- Experience in program coordination – ideally within sport, nonprofit or community development settings
- Strong written and oral communication skills, bilingual (French/English) candidates an asset
- Comfortable with athlete-facing communication – empathetic, respectful and responsive to a diverse range of ages and backgrounds
- Collaborative mindset – able to work effectively with the AC Masters Committee, provincial branches, LOCs and colleagues
- Solution oriented – proactively seeks ways to strengthen Masters programming and address concerns
Working Conditions
- The Coordinator, Masters Athletics is a remote position. The candidate must be located in Canada.
- This position requires occasional evening and weekend work. Domestic and international travel is required for event and team management.
- Some outdoor event work, must be able to lift 50 lbs.

- Compensation will be determined by the successful candidates’ skills and experience.
