About the Position
As a Communications Intern, you will play an essential role in helping Swimming Canada maintain its dynamic digital presence, support marketing initiatives, and connect with audiences. This position offers hands-on experience and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to one of Canada’s most successful sports organizations.
This internship is designed to align with your post-secondary coursework and provide professional development opportunities.
Availability
The ideal candidate will be available to begin between February and April 2025, and until the end of April or August 2025. There may be opportunities to attend events during the spring and summer. Timelines and schedules are flexible and will be discussed with each candidate.
The ideal candidate will be available to work on a flexible schedule, including some evening and weekend hours during events.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, ideating, and executing engaging social media content and content calendar.
- Provide support on marketing & communications special projects and events.
- Assist with creation of invitations, tracking, and logistics for special events.
- Track and compile analytics for all social media platforms.
- Assist in social media reporting after major events including World Trials and World Championships.
- Pitch creative story ideas and social media content, including static posts and video formats (e.g., TikTok and Instagram Reels).
- Support special events and sponsor activations as needed.
- Update athlete bios and other website content.
- Provide logistical support for Swimming Canada events, virtually and possibly in-person.
- All other duties as required.
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary program.
- The internship must contribute towards earning academic credits for a specific course as part of the program.
Experience, Qualifications and Other Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and social media platforms, including Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and TikTok.
- Previous experience in social media content creation is an asset.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc.) is an asset
- A strong understanding of current trends in the social media landscape.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently on multiple tasks with specific deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
- Ability to maintain professionalism when interacting with athletes, coaches, and staff.
- Basic knowledge of graphic design tools (e.g., Canva) is an asset.
- Familiarity with the sport of swimming is desired but not required.
- Strong verbal and writing skills in English is required. Ability to understand, speak, read and write in French would be an asset.
- Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the organization and priorities within the department.
- Ability to travel domestically to support events, as needed.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
Work Location
This position is able to work remotely, and/or out of the Ottawa office.
The Ottawa office is located on the traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinabek People.
Compensation
An honorarium will be provided following the conclusion of each internship term.
