ABOUT THE POSITION
As a key member of Swimming Canada’s High Performance Paralympic Program, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading all aspects of the Paralympic High Performance Centre in Montreal. The impact and success of the role will be defined by the progression of Centre athletes’ performances at WPS World Championship events and Paralympic Games, as well as through the implementation of an athlete-centered and performance cultural approach.
The ideal candidate will be available to start in September or October 2025. Some flexibility with the start date may be accommodated.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and direct all activities related to CHP-Que.
- Act as personal and main coach for all CHP-Que athletes.
- Ensure all aspects of coaching delivery of services for CHP-Que athletes align with high-performance standards and Swimming Canada guidelines, including:
- Daily training environment (DTE)
- Yearly training plans (YTP)
- Individual performance plans
- Gap analyses
- Collaborate with the Para National IST Lead to ensure the delivery of services optimizes athletes’ progression towards podium performances at major Games.
- Develop and implement individual annual training and competition performance plans for each Centre athlete.
- Create and lead a best-in-class DTE by providing exceptional delivery in preparation, on-deck coaching, and debriefs on a regular basis.
- Build and maintain positive collaborative working relationships with other lead coaches in Swimming Canada High Performance Centres.
- Work with the IST team to deliver a best-in-class daily training environment.
- Optimize program funding while ensuring sustainability of high-performance standards.
- Provide input and manage the annual budget for CHP-Que and other initiatives as assigned.
- Attend domestic and international events as a personal coach or team coach, as assigned.
- Identify and develop athletes with potential opportunities to join CHP-Que and progress towards future podium performances at major Games.
- Monitor athlete progression through collected data and provide information to key internal and external groups.
- Engage with provinces as required to provide opportunities for identified athletes to attend Centre visits.
- Provide timely updates and reports on all coaching activities as required.
- Perform all other duties as required.
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIREMENTS
- Experience coaching internationally classified para swimmers is required.
- Experience coaching para swimmers for major international competitions (World Championships, Paralympics, Para Pan American Games) is an asset.
- Certified NCCP 3, or equivalent, or near completion by the start date is required.
- Chartered Professional Coach designation with the Coaching Association of Canada is an asset.
- Experience leading an Integrated Support Team (IST) is an asset.
- Understanding of domestic and/or international para swimming classification is an asset.
- Technical knowledge of physical, visual, and/or intellectual impairment and its relation to athletic function and high-performance sport is an asset.
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multi-faceted environment.
- Ability to provide timely, compelling, and concise advice to support decision-making.
- Strong ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external groups.
- Strong decision-making, organization, planning, and attention to detail skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required; ability to speak, understand, and read French is desired.
- Ability to guide and influence various groups.
- Strong planning and reporting skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 suite and various swimming technologies, including Swim Pro video system, is an asset.
- Ability to complete and maintain all organization requirements, including:
- Submission of Enhanced Police Information Check (EPIC)
- All other training and clearance requirements as required by Swimming Canada or regulatory bodies
- Current active member in good standing of the Canadian Swimming Coaches Association (CSCA).
- National Lifeguard Certification (pool) and/or Standard First Aid/AED certification are assets.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Valid driver’s license for the purpose of driving vehicles at camps, meets, and attending site visits domestically and internationally is an asset.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
WORK LOCATION
This is a full-time, fixed-term position until March 31, 2029, working out of the Centre in Montreal. The successful candidate must be available and eligible for selection to all National and CHP-Que team and camp activities. This position involves irregular working hours and significant travel.
The High Performance Centre in Montreal is located on unceded Indigenous lands of the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation.
The Ottawa Office is located on the traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinabek People.
