Speed Skating Canada (SSC) is seeking passionate, skilled, and community-driven leaders to join our Board of Directors. We are looking for individuals with diverse experiences, perspectives, and expertise to help guide the organization as we work to fulfill our mission and drive the continued growth of speed skating across the country.

Our Mission: Building a fun, safe, and inclusive speed skating community across Canada that empowers everyone to grow strong and healthy.
As a Director, you will play a key role in advancing the continued growth and development of Speed Skating Canada in alignment with our2023-2027 Strategic Plan. You will also help strengthen relationships across the Canadian speed skating community.

ELIGIBILITY
All nominees must meet the requirements outlined in Section 4.3 of the SSC By-Laws. In addition, prior to standing for election, nominees must:
- Be a registered participant with SSC (if not already in good standing)
- Complete an Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) and Enhanced Character Screening (facilitated and paid for by SSC)
- Commit to becoming a UCCMS Participant under the Canadian Safe Sport Program and adhere to the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS), if elected.
BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES
SSC Directors commit to:
- Attending at least two in-person Board meetings per year (hosted in cities across Canada)
- Participating in 6–8 virtual meetings annually, with additional ad hoc meetings or teleconferences as needed
- Engaging in ongoing email discussions and representing SSC at events and with partner organizations

NOMINATION PROCESS
To be considered, candidates must:
- Complete and submit the official nomination form
- Include a resumé or brief biography
- Complete an Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) and Enhanced Character Screening (facilitated and paid for by SSC)

SELECTION PROCESS
The 2025 Nominations Committee, chaired by Ron Weiser (Chair of the SSC Board), will review all submitted nominations and meet virtually with candidates. A list of eligible nominees who meet the Board requirements will be shared with SSC Members, along with insights on how each candidate aligns with the desired competencies and areas of representation.
Elections will take place at the Annual General Meeting in Calgary, AB, in September 2025. Candidates will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to voting Members either in person or via live video call.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Nominations Committee is seeking individuals who bring a mix of leadership, expertise, and diverse lived experiences to the SSC Board of Directors. While all strong candidates will demonstrate sound judgment, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate with staff, athletes, volunteers, and partners — we are especially interested in individuals who bring one or more of the following key skill sets:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
- Legal experience (licensed by a Provincial/Territorial Law Society or holding an LL.B.)
- Sponsorship and revenue generation experience
These areas are a priority for this election cycle due to their strategic importance in supporting SSC’s continued growth and operational excellence.
In addition, the Committee values candidates who contribute to broader representation across the Board, including:
- Experience in governance and organizational development
- Proven leadership in sport sector and /or in corporative, non-for-profit or private sectors
- Gender diversity
- Representation from under-represented groups
- Regional representation from across Canada
