Overview
SIRC is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Communications Assistant to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing our mission by supporting development and execution of communication strategies and research projects for sport at all levels in Canada.
Under the guidance of SIRC’s Communications and Marketing Manager, the Communications Assistant will, among other things, be involved in the planning and coordination of various programs.
- Position Type: Full Time (4-month contract)

- Work Location: Hybrid (based in Ottawa-Gatineau, House of Sport)
- Reports To: Communications and Marketing Manager
- Compensation: Remuneration commensurate with experience
Requirements:
- Fluency in both French and English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Based in the Ottawa region, with the ability to work in office (House of Sport, RA Centre).
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, knowledge translation, sport management, or a related field.
- Must be between 15 and 30 years old, a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee, and legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) to be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs program.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of or interest in the Canadian amateur sport sector, and awareness of relevant topics, such as concussion and safety in sport.
- Proven creative thinking skills and ability to brainstorm new ideas and problem solve.
- Highly effective planning and organization skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven experience in executing communication strategies and plans.
- Proficient in using communication tools and platforms, including MailChimp, WordPress, Canva, YouTube, and other similar tools.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel & PPT), specifically Excel.
Key Responsibilities:
Digital Communications Channels Content Support
- Support in the creation of content for SIRC’s digital communications platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, and YouTube.
- Support in the execution of social media engagement strategies.
Website Content Development and Maintenance Support
- Uploading and creation of website content, including blogs, knowledge nuggets, audio summaries, and related content, that is visually engaging and features multimedia content assets.
- General maintenance support in WordPress related content management, search engine optimization (SEO), etc.
Newsletter and Email Campaign Support
- Creation of content for the Canadian Sport Daily newsletter and ongoing email campaigns, ensuring timely and relevant distribution of content to target audiences.
- Copy-editing and formatting of content for the Canadian Sport Daily newsletter, ensuring professional presentation of content using a high attention to detail.
- Management and maintenance of distribution lists for key stakeholder groups and target audiences.
