Baseball Canada (BC) is the national governing body for baseball in Canada, committed to promoting the growth and development of the sport at all levels, from grassroots to high performance. Baseball Canada believes in providing positive experiences for all participants in a safe and inclusive environment, and in the development of life skills that will benefit participants both on and off the field.

We are currently seeking candidates to fill four (4) Director positions on the Baseball Canada Board of Directors and two (2) Athlete Representative Director positions (one male & one female). We invite dedicated and visionary individuals to apply and help shape the future of baseball in Canada.

The Baseball Canada Nominating Committee (NC) will lead the nomination process. The NC is focused on recruiting individuals who collectively bring a diverse set of skills, experiences, competencies, and attributes necessary to guide the organization forward. The NC will undertake a thorough process, including screening and vetting potential candidates, before the elections.

The following skills, experiences, competencies, and attributes will assist in identifying candidates for election. Candidates should demonstrate their expertise in these areas. These attributes cover a broad spectrum required for effective leadership, including:

  • Industry Experience – Canadian Sports System, Baseball, Sport Safety
  • General Competencies – Executive leadership, Board governance, Stakeholder management, Government relations, and policy development
  • Technical Competencies – Finance & Accounting, Compensation & Human Resources, Legal & Regulatory, Risk Management, Marketing & Sales, IT & Information Management, Business Development, Organizational Culture, Change Management
  • Behavioural Competencies – Leadership & Influence, Preparedness & Engagement, Strategic Orientation, Communication & Listening, and Courage
  • The NC is committed to a respectful, professional, and fair process for identifying candidates to appear on the ballot.
  • An essential part of the process will involve the screening and interviewing of potential candidates.
  • As part of its commitment to providing a safe and healthy sporting environment, any potential candidate must be willing to submit to Baseball Canada’s screening process and reference checks.

Candidates holding a director or employment position of a Member or local or regional baseball club or association of a Member and/or Baseball Canada will be required to step down from such position immediately upon being elected as a Director of Baseball Canada.  Any person seeking election as a Director must declare any perceived or actual conflict of interest in advance of seeking election. To qualify as a Director, individuals must:

  • Be a Canadian resident
  • Be at least eighteen (18) years old
  • Have the power under law to contract
  • Not have the status of bankrupt
  • Not have been declared incapable by a court in Canada or another country
  • Satisfy the requirements of the Income Tax Act in relation to the eligibility to serve as a director of a registered charity

Candidates who are applying for the Athlete Representative Director positions must have been a former professional player or National team player who is not involved in Canada’s activities or programs).  They must have Canadian citizenship;

Potential candidates must submit a resume (no more than two pages), including two references. A brief cover letter should also be included, highlighting the skills, experiences, competencies, and attributes that make the individual a suitable nominee for the Board. Potential candidates will also be asked to complete the Baseball Canada nomination form. Due to the anticipated volume of applications, most communication with applicants will occur electronically, except for those who are shortlisted.
