Webinar – Online

As we work to resolve the crisis of abuse and corruption in and through Canadian sport, the relationship between pain and sport emerges as a problematic concept worth exploring and better understanding. Most who have endured the experience of pushing oneself past one’s limits will recognize the phrase ‘no pain, no gain’ mirroring a similar paradigm in the workplace of paying one’s dues to move up the corporate ladder.

Pushing through pain is often conflated with commitment. But is it pain that we are pushing through when we strive to exceed our limits of strength, skill, and endurance, or something else? Past and current trauma can result in emotional pain and grief but can also impact the way one experiences physical pain. Part of a healthy approach to sport played to any degree is a clear distinction between pain and limits, injury and stretch.

For Episode 26 of our Sport Leadership and Social Change webinar seriesOpens in a new window hosted by Dr. Jennifer WalingaOpens in a new window, we bring together sport leaders and experts on chronic pain, mental and physical limits, grief, failure and team suffering to discuss the relationship between pain and sport.
