Two top-tens for Canada in Second Hub Event

April 26, 2021: The four Canadian teams in the second FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 4-star tournament at the Cancun (Mexico) Hub wrapped up this weekend with two ninths among the results. 

World Champions and number-one ranked Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON) and Melissa Humana-Paredes (Toronto, ON) were eliminated by Germany’s Karla Borger and Julia Sude with a 2-0 (21-14, 21-15) score in the second round of playoffs.

On the men’s side, Grant O’Gorman (Scarborough, ON) and Ben Saxton (Calgary, AB) also finished in the top ten with impressive pool play wins over teams from Brazil and Spain. In the playoffs, the Canadians fell to Carambula/Rossi of Italy (0-2).

Brandie Wilkerson (Toronto) and Heather Bansley (Waterdown, ON) lost a tough three-setter with Australia’s Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho on Saturday in the first round of playoffs to finish ranked 17th in this event.

Sam Pedlow (Barrie, ON) and Sam Schachter (Richmond Hill, ON) succeeded in winning their qualifying matches, but ended the tournament in 25th.

Medal matches take place today (Monday, April 26) and Cancun hub’s third tournament runs from April 28 to May 02. All matches are on YouTube.
