Women’s Full-Time Training Centre Continues to Provide Leadership for Athletes in Richmond

OCT. 29, 2020:  Volleyball Canada’s Women’s Full-time Training Centre (FTC) program is hosted at the Richmond Olympic Oval until December, and provides training and services for high-level athletes who are not currently with professional clubs or university programs.

“We are very fortunate to be able to provide a full-time training environment for current National Team players and additional athletes on the pathway whose sights are set on National Team selection in the future,” said Shannon Winzer, head coach of both the senior training group and NextGen program.

The FTC has been set up to provide a competitive environment for current National Team athletes to develop in between professional playing contracts, as well as to provide technical and tactical training for targeted athletes in need of a place to safely train during the pandemic.

“Our aim continues to work with as many athletes as possible in the targeted group four to eight years out of podium potential as we work towards 2024 Olympic qualification,” explains Winzer.

The Richmond Olympic Oval is also the site of the National Excellence Program for developing athletes. More info on the NEP is here.
