2020 AthletesCAN Forum featuring the 43rd Canadian Sport Awards goes virtual

(Ottawa, ON – September 10) AthletesCAN is pleased to announce that the 2020 AthletesCAN Forum featuring the 43rd Canadian Sport Awards (“CSA”) will be hosted on October 23-25th, 2020. Both Forum and the CSA will be delivered virtually, with complimentary registration for all AthletesCAN members and sport system leaders.

“Though we initially struggled to accept that our cherished annual event would have to be delivered virtually due to COVID-19, the planning Committee and AthletesCAN team have been working diligently to plan the most engaging, exciting and accessible event, taking advantage of being able to deliver Forum to a bigger audience while making sure everyone stays safe,” said AthletesCAN President, Dasha Peregoudova. “See” you soon!”

The AthletesCAN Forum remains the largest gathering of Canada’s athlete representatives outside of competition.  It brings together Canada’s high performance athletes and sport leaders to learn about the sport system, develop leadership skills, share ideas and network through interactive workshops and presentations.

The 2020 AthletesCAN Forum will feature some of the world’s top sport leaders discussing crucial topics currently impacting Athlete rights in the Canadian and international sport landscape. Sessions in this year’s program will include: safe sport, athlete holistic wellness, athlete human rights, athlete representation, leadership elections and more! Stay tuned to our social channels for program updates.

CANADIAN SPORT AWARDS

“We are proud to continue the 48-year strong tradition of celebrating Canadian achievements in sport through the 43rd Canadian Sport Awards,” said Georgina Truman, Manager Athlete Relations and Operations. “This year has been an immense challenge for the sport community and the world, but we are motivated by the opportunity to honour the incredible stories of resilience and leadership that contribute to richness and world leading sport landscape in Canada. We encourage Canadians to nominate their sporting heroes for their passion and leadership contributions to sport and society.”

The nomination process for the 43rd Canadian Sport Awards is now open. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the global shutdown of sport, AthletesCAN has made the difficult decision not to include the Sport Performance category in the 2019-2020 nomination process. We remain committed to celebrating Canadian sporting achievements, and will do so by honouring achievements during 2012-2018 Canadian Sport Award hiatus. AthletesCAN is also excited to announce that we will be introducing a new award, Most Viral Moment. This new award will honour an athlete, current or retired, who has used their digital platform to inspire hope in all Canadians during this difficult time. A full list of 2020 CSA categories is available here. The 43rd CSA nomination period will close on October 4th, 2020. Finalists for each CSA award will be announced in the fall and winners will be announced in October 2020. Please stay tuned
